Wig Spiking Tutorial1
// October 1, 2010
When picking out a wig to spike, it’s highly recommended you choose one with lots of volume. Wigs that have frizzed roots at the base have more “lift” and tend to have less gaps where you separate the hair. You also might have to add in extra wefts in advance so you have more fibers to work with.
Do some research on your wig’s fibers to see if they are of good quality. Some of my favorite wigs for spiking are Punky styles (sold at both Cosworx and Amphigory online) and Silky Spikey (a cheaper version of Punky, sold on Amphigory) because they are good quality and have a frizzed-rooted top. I’m using a custom-dyed Silky Spikey wig for this tutorial.
