Cosplay Gen Updates

EuroCosplay 20103

// August 5, 2011

Twice a year, you will be hard pressed to find a more elaborately colourful multitude of people than at the London MCM Expo. In May and October, untold thousands gather as the ExceL Customs House bordering the Thames, for what is without a doubt one of, if not the biggest cosplay, comics and video game events in Europe. As usual, we were there at an ungodly hour in the morning to watch the sheer quantity of people pool in from all over the country (and the world), greeted by security guards who were cleverly disguised as stormtroopers. The San Diego Comic Con is a convention with a quite long history, ’cause believe it or not, it has been running for more than 40 years now! It started out with an attendance of 145 people in 1970, which has since gone up to more than 130000+ people in 2011, thus reaching the status of the largest convention going on in America today. There is more to a particularly flamboyant costume-play than meets the eye. The sheer elegance and icy noblesse of Astharoshe Asran reveals more than intrigue and imperial propaganda. The skills involved in finishing up are full with expert knowledge. If you don't work in the dye industry and if you don't learn every tailoring technique the hard way – then you will have to talk with VickyBunnyAngel. She will teach you about cosworx, Sculpey and wonderflex! [..]

This year in Singapore, during June 25-26, took place the 10th anniversary edition of Cosfest. We have previously featured Cosfest in Cosplay Gen #02, and from the looks of it, the event is only getting better and better each year! The event is highly centered around cosplay, as such an event name would imply, and not only does it gather a lot of talented cosplayers from Singapore, but from neighbouring countries as well. [..]

Already very well known in the worldwide cosplay community, Shiro Ang is also one of the first friends of Cosplay Gen, having its photos published in each issue. Never ceasing to amaze through his beautiful portraits and stills, he is also the no.1 contributor on Cosplay Gen group, submitting his wonderful works for the view of as many cosplay fans as possible. Very talented not only as a cosplay photographer, but also as a photographer as such, Shiro was kind enough to reveal some of his opinions regarding cosplay photography for our readers... [..]

Mention underwater photography, and most would think of thousands of dollars worth of equipment - camera, camera casing, diving equipment even. Well, that's not necessarily true. Today I'm going to share with you guys, not just how to do it on a seriously tight budget, but also my own experience from the latest underwater shoot I did with Angie and Kazeki. [..]

Nicole Alú, better known as TsukiLion, is an architecture graduate and lives in the Dominican Republic. She started cosplaying on November of 2009 in a small convention named J-Fest. As in her country cosplay is rather a new wave, she hadn't previously heard of it or had the chance to try it. But, after that convention, she has done a lot of research, and realized how huge and amazing the world of cosplay is, wanting to improve her skills everyday. She has become quite skilful in props-making, and she accepted to share with us and our readers her tutorial for Grell Sutcliff's chainsaw, from the Kuroshitsuji series. [..]

We hope you didn’t think that the Worldwide Fans column was over now that we launched the Community’s Choice column. Following its success in Cosplay Gen #03, we’re launching the call for submissions for the Worldwide Fans column in Cosplay Gen #04. [..]
