Hakuren-Naoki [Cosplayer]5
// September 1, 2011
This time, Cosplay Gen presents Hakuren-Naoki, a young and promising cosplayer from Thailand, who has already begun to be acknowledged in this hobby, participating in various cosplay events, the most recent one being in Indonesia, where she also had a photo session together with Kaname and the photographer Hexlord. If you want to find out about her experiences as a cosplayer, read the interview below.
Hakuren-Naoki: I started cosplaying long ago, when I didn’t even know the word “cosplay” or that what I was doing is called “cosplay”. Later, my brother, who is also a cosplayer, saw me trying to cosplay, and he explained to me what cosplay meant, dragging me to a cosplay event in Thailand.
HN: I was so excited that I was going to meet up with Hexlord in Indonesia, because he’s one of my favorite cosplay photographers. We also chatted about our photo session before travelling to Indonesia. I was very interested in it. And I also asked Kaname-san, who was going to cosplay a character of the same series, to go to the photo session too. I’m so glad everyone enjoyed it a lot.
HN: To me, the difficult experience as a cosplayer is the costume itself; it’s very difficult to make a costume similar to the original. The details and scale for armours and weapons should be also strong, because when I’m on the stage in a cosplay competition I don’t want them to break. Make-up is also important, not only the costume, because the cosplayer should be looking good. Study how the character looks like or if there is any special make-up for the character. That’s a very difficult part for me: “Observe the details”.
HN: : Kaname-san; he always pays attention to his make-up when cosplaying. It’s very amazing that someone can do this in such way. (I can stay with my make-up on only for a very short while). Also Goldy Mark, who’s making many robot cosplays, such as Gundam… he’s amazing! I can’t make that Giant robot! Respect! I want to try making a machine costume someday too. But later.
HN: As I am both a cosplayer and a photographer, I think they should understand each other. The photographer wants great photos and a great angle, while the cosplayer wants a picture that would give him/her a look like the character’s. If they understand each other well, they can make the perfect photo, the perfect art, very easily.
HN: To make my costumes and my cosplays better and better. I don’t want to lose to myself and want to do my best on the costumes of the characters I’ll cosplay.
